We have all heard the horror stories of birds getting their feathers plucked alive, sheep getting their wool shaved and coming out bloody on the other side. The animal industry have a lot of horror stories and you can choose to allow it or you can choose to be against it. All of us has probably had a duvet filled with feathers or a nice wool stuffed duna but what are we allowing so that we can stay warm? If I would tell you that there are sheets, dunas and pillows, all cruelty-free, organic and vegan, that would allow you to stay just as warm, would you choose it or would you go for ones stuffed with pain and torment?Photo by Brandon Montrone from Pexels

What Is Cruelty-Free Bedding

Basically a cruelty-free bedding is one that has not allowed animals to suffer for it. By choosing a cruelty-free and vegan way of sleep you are choosing products that has no animal products and has not been tested on animals. How can sheets be tested on animals one might wonder. A lot of the times our sheets or other bedding products have been bleached or in other ways treated with chemicals, those chemicals are tested on animals which can cause them a lot of unnecessary suffering and pain. By choosing a different product you can be against cruelty like this one and still sleep like a baby, perhaps with a lighter, conscious.

Vegan Pillow

A vegan and cruelty-free pillow can be made out Eco friendly cotton, bamboo or other materials that are not animal derived.

I am personally a big fan of the bamboo pillow. The bamboo pillow is made out of bamboo and it is the most comfortable pillow I have ever owned. Other kinds of vegan and cruelty-free pillows can be just 100% cotton, do make sure that it is Eco-friendly. The same goes for the pillow cover. Find something that is Eco friendly, cruelty-free and vegan. The same goes here, I love the bamboo bedding, they are super soft and smooth.

Take a look at these 100% Egyptian cotton and bamboo sheets, not only are they free from animal products but they are friendly to our environment. They can be purchased from eBay with international shipping.

Vegan Duvet

A lot of us do not think about where our bed sheets or duvet come from. If we hear wool or feather we think warm and cosy, however the animals have to suffer quite a bit, most birds are plucked alive, which one can only imagine being quite painful. I find it painful when I accidentally rip a couple of hairs of my head, I do not even want to imagine the pain I would feel if I got every single hair pulled from my head. Did you know that in a feather duna, there is approximately 75 birds? Did you know that it is not uncommon for these birds to be plucked alive and several times?

There are better options here as well, cotton or synthetic fillings. Dunas can be purchased, cruelty-free and vegan, at stores such as IKEA. Almost any store that carries dunas and pillow will have cruelty-free ones.

Vegan Bed Sheets

It might come as a shock that there actually is such a thing as vegan bed sheets. Vegan is not only a diet, it is a lifestyle, a lifestyle that tries to inflict the least amount of pain and suffering as possible, it fights for animal rights, for animals to not be tormented and used so that we can sleep.

If you for example sleep in silk sheets, the silk beetle has been boiled alive, that is how silk is created. When the beetle feel pain it tries to defend itself by creating silk. It is a part of its defense.

Vegan bed sheets do not have to be boring or uncomfortable, they can be quite comfortable, allergenic and environmentally friendly. They come in a variety of sizes and colors as well as different materials.

Conclusion

The world is control by consumers wanting and manufacturers creating. If there is a need they will try to fill it. By choosing a bedding that is cruelty-free and vegan you are creating a need. This need will be filled as the manufacturers want to make money. If you stop purchasing one product they will find out what it is that you need instead of this product. If you think that one person cannot make a difference you are wrong. You lead by example, one person choosing not to exploit and animal will soon turn into thousands, if everyone says no to something it will soon be a thing of the past and things more equipped for our needs will be invented. Choose wisely and choose with your heart.
